As I reflect back on the year that had went by, one aspect of my life that was a constant struggle was my skin. During high school I did take prescribed antibiotics but around the age of twenty four, pimples were back for a party. After trying every haldi mask connotation, drinking 2L+ of h20 & spending half of 2018 peeing, my mother suggested I go see a naturopath. And now all my sentences begin with “SO my naturopath said…”
Yes, I am THAT person..
The day of my first consultation I had broken out all over my cheeks, my skin was red, inflamed & in need of some serious love. After a few question about my diet, sleep patterns & general health questions, I changed/slightly tweaked the following:
- Diet: I was always a little conscious of what I put in my body, however, I was advised to cut out all fried food & junk food in general. The one vice I couldn’t shake away was ice cream, however, I did switch to a low calorie option.
- Vitamins: I was put on Vitamin D, Zinc, Iron supplements & a general probiotic.
- Detox: As soon as I wake up in the morning I religiously have one glass of warm water with half a lemon & a glass of warm water with apple cider vinegar (I know – it’s hard at first but you get used to the taste). Plus, I drink a detox juice – beetroot, green apple, carrot & ginger.
- Skincare: My current skin care is not too dramatic, I use a gentle cleanser morning & evening, SPF moisturiser religiously in the morning, a hydrating night cream, aloe & witch hazel wipes & occasionally a homemade mask. The only change I made is I wash my face sometimes three times a day if I feel a little oily.
Currently, I only break out when my period is due or if I eat too much chocolate, but overall I have visible pigmentation, which I’m working hard to clear up. If you are looking for a natural solution to dealing with acne, I recommend visiting a naturopath, not just for your skin but for overall health & if you are looking for an all natural route.
