I have always liked everything different. Or some would say unconventional. It wasn’t a a way to rebel but perhaps a way to experiment & figure out what I actually liked & later down the path what I wanted to pursue.
Some of my life choices haven’t led me down the yellow brick road of life’s primitive enlightenment but I am okay with that. For instance, this year marks my seventh year at university, where I am not only dragging myself but also, roughly nine jobs, numerous freelance stints, a blog, countless lines of code & Legally Blonde on repeat, to the graduating finish line.
But, studying an undergrad for seven years has a silver lining. Through these seven years, I experienced full time work early on & I like to think I have mastered the art of time management & prioritisation. Not only a little life skills, I have also learnt a long list of tech skills, interview hacks (By hacks I mean copy & pasting my intro to every head hunter & wearing the same black Bardot dress) & received excellent feedback on my resume, here’s an excerpt:
“My spirit animal is Fran Fine & I believe in coding to change the world, thigh high boots & pizza.”
I guess the unconventional seeps into my wardrobe too. In the early days I remember rocking my dads Hawaiian shirts, which probably started my love for an over-size fit, tied up over a white singlet or in this case pairing an over size denim jacket under a checkered long coat, over a yellow t shirt. Sometimes being off-beat pays off, oh & great lighting helps.
