Is it just a dress or a story?

The average piece of clothing is worn seven times before being thrown out.

87% ends up in a land-fill & only 1% is recycled. – ‘Fashionopolis’ – Dana Thomas

Clothes.

To some are a mere cut of fabric, used to cover or regulate temperature. Nothing more, nothing less. To others, it is celebrating the intricacies & craftsmanship of the 18th Century era & Studio 54. For another fair percentage of people, clothes are an expression of their personality, the way they dress is a fragment of their true self. A great example is Jess from New Girl, a charismatic teacher who rocks a lot of polka dots & wears a ribbon hat.

And then are those who are appreciative of the creative process. Each stitch & loop is what fuels their love for clothes. Knowing that each item is handcrafted with absolute love & care, is a sign of deep enjoyment.

Last on the list, are those who have exploding closets & convince you that each item is essential. Everything has a story attached to them. To you, it’s a musty old shirt with sweat stains, to them its a book bound with stories, experiences, adventures & memories. Too hard to let go.

Whatever, category you fit in, if you’re a minimalist or a hoarder, when you learn more about the harmful impacts of fast fashion, you probably won’t be hitting checkout on your third Zara order. If you’re looking for inspiration, maybe it’s time to dig through your closet & see what adventures are hiding inside an old hat or could even lead you to discover forgotten cash in your once favourite bucket bag.

If you’re anything life me, your creative waves will flow on.

Here’s my outfit story:

This skirt was purchased seven years ago on my first trip to India & also happens to be my first & last Zara purchase. The skirt is a size too big & for the longest time I didn’t wear it, however, after one wear, I was convinced.

The blue sweater, I stole from my boyfriend. ( I gave it back, because he loves it)!

My absolute favourite pair of boots remind me of a drunken, albeit memorable night out with friends & many other not so memorable nights a.k.a bad dates.
