“I like my shorts high-waisted, comfortable & versatile….”
You don’t need a crystal ball to know that the future of fashion lies in functionality & comfort. However, function & comfort aren’t the only factors consumers out there are looking for when shopping for loungewear.
Enter in: sustainability & ethical shopping, which is on a steady rise. The current state of consumerism has led many brands to find ways to grow against the curve & discover new ways to climb into the minds of consumers who are more conscious of their fashion consumption.
According to Sustain Your Style, “The apparel industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions.” Fast fashion companies are able to provide quick turn around times with new & fresh styles straight from the runway to consumers at a low price – In 2012, Zara was able to design, produce and deliver a new garment in two weeks; Forever 21 in six weeks and H&M in eight weeks. (earth.org). The impact of fast fashion are detrimental to the environment & we know it.
Given that the world is slowly opening & the return to “normal” clothes are on the horizon, loungewear will still be a team player. From desk to gym to dinner, loungewear will play a huge role in forming the basis of outfits. A lot of brand are now seeing the cultural shift & not only designing trackies but focusing on clean fabrics, biodegradable packaging & fair working wages to factory workers.
Soon enough, everyone will be slipping into their “work” outfits & begrudgingly taking off their hoodies to conform into a member of society once again, but will never forget the comfortable pair of trackies & t-shirt that got them through 2020.
