Okay. What seemed at first a short-lived slump, has turned into an all out distaste for shopping. Maybe its the lull of lockdown or the lack of inspiration or truth be told the fact that I can no longer find clothes in my wardrobe that are in style. With my everyday track pants rotation, switching between emails, Instagram & Refinery29, I have now decided to bring forth from the depths of closet. – the dungaree. Or as most people refer to it as overalls.
Once a denim piece reserved for children under the age of twelve & once before that synonymous with painters, the 90s phenomena is now the unofficial lockdown uniform. A marriage of loungewear & denim, forming a union to create a low maintenance, tenacious member of your wardrobe. My personal favourite being a slouchy soft denim or a crisp dark blue denim with flares; perfect for freedom day.

Dungarees fall under the category of tenacity to transcend from season to season, falling right next to the little black dress, blazers & white shirts. With the ability to reincarnate into multiple looks, it forms an infinite loop of oh that’s fresh:
- A peasant, balloon sleeved white lace blouse, with gold jewelry for an effortless, Little House on the Prairie look.
- Chunky emerald green sweater & combat boots that says no I’m not cold
- An oversize washed denim dungaree, layered over a Smiths T-shirts for a Rob inspired look from High Fidelity, walking to the bodega for $1 coffee.
- Wear the ‘rolls with a white shirt to give the illusion of No, I didn’t stay up all night reading & yes, I did Pilates at seven a.m. look.
The key is to look like you have your life together, all while wearing overalls.
